As many of my friends know, I love to find and download mp3s. If I end up liking multiple songs by a band, I usually buy the CD, but I'm not here to be a moral judge of how you support music. That is up to you.
Several people have asked me where I go to download mp3s. I have lots of places, newsgroups, allofmp3.com, hypemachine, bittorrents, websites, etc that I plan to cover in a future blog. But what most people don't know is that you can find tons of mp3s via google if you know what kind of query string to enter. I've modified a tutorial I found on the web for doing it here. For those that want the quick version, what I typically do is go to google and enter a search string like this:
intitle:index.of + mp3 + "zeppelin" -html -htm -php -asp -txt -pls
where you replace "zeppelin" with whatever you are looking for, ie: arcade fire, etc.
This will usually come up with links to directories of songs that contain mp3s with the name zeppelin in them. The cool thing about this is the directories are usually songs archived by people who like zeppelin, so chances are in addition to the zeppelin mp3s, you will find other similar music that you like and may even be new to you.
Anyway, here is the entire howto... enjoy.
